I am looking for a good free software program for video work. Something I can convert video files like wma, etc to VCD format so I can watch them on my home player. Anyone know of any that are free and will convert the whole file and not just 50 or 60% before you buy the Real version!!

    Nero is not free.

Poke around VideoHelp.com, I'm sure you can find something there.

Video software is generally pretty complicated and you get what you pay for. That said, I doubt you'll find too much 'FreeWare' for video. There is a program called 'VirtualDub' that I believe does pretty good conversions, if you already have VCD burning software. If not, uLead, while not free, makes a pretty good product and does have fully functional demos.

If you go to www.majorgeeks.com, they have a great selection of freeware and shareware. I download from there all the time - no spyware, etc.

you could always use windows movie maker 2 which is included with windows. Its not the best at encoding quickly (super slow) but it should be able to do most basic things.
