I have a large number of movies stored on my second drive (60% full) in several folders. I have been having a problem with my thumbnails disappearing in Windows Media Center (WMC) in these folders. All the thumbnails can be seen in Explorer. They are missing in WMC only.
I have tracked it down that some of the thumbnails will sometimes reappear but will disappear again when I am watching a video and back out (in WMC) to start another. It doesn't affect all the videos in the folder just most of them. It also doesn't seem to be related to what type of file the video is as well. On my primary drive where I have another movie folder as well all the thumbnails are present.
I have searched the net and come up with articles that mentioned "Peceived File Types" being altered in the registry from some other program installation. I originally had the K-Lite Full Codec Pack installed. I uninstalled it and and replaced it with the CCCP Codec Pack because the author had indicated it had a "Perceived File Type Association" option in the setup. This had no effect. I haven't used a Nero program either.
I also made visible the hidden file with the folder thumbnail settings in it and deleted it. It had no effect either.
I think the problem is specific to my second drive only. I have another video folder on my primary drive and there is no problem in WMC with any of its thumbnails. I also tried moving 20 videos from the 2nd drive to the first to a new folder. All the thumbnail previews worked fine.
If someone else with a second drive has had a similiar problem and can share some insight into the remedy I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

I had a similar problem, but for me I could not get thumbnails to appear for certain video files both in explorer and in WMC. Turned out that I had to manually add a registry entry. By the way, I too use CCCP codec pack. Might want to look into any registry changes that need to be made.
I WARN YOU! BE CAREFUL! YOU COULD MESS UP YOUR SYSTEM!
I thought I had the sites that helped me with this issue bookmarked, but seems like I don't. I'll see if I can find them again. -
I read about those registry changes myself. That is one of the reasons I switched over to CCCP because the author that had prepared the registry changes had implied that CCCP would take care of them automatically. I am not knowledgeable enough to want to mess around with my registry. Also, the problem seems to be in WMC only not Explorer and on my second drive only. This makes me inclined to suspect I may have another problem some how related to the second drive. I am hoping to find someone who has had the same second drive problem and has figured it out.
