tried vlc, wmp, and gom player and they all do the same thing: crash and i have no idea why it is doing so.

reinstalling windows didn't do anything once updates were applied. i no longer see the windows upgrade icon in the task bar.

Is it one video or all videos, did you check the event log for any indication of what might be causing the crashes?

You could also try MPC-HC, but I doubt it'll change anything.

tried different nvidia drivers and no go, trying different audio drivers.

Also making sure i have all updates though i don't know which broke what!

EDIT: still busted :( nothing in the event logs to show for it.

hmm.....fresh install = video playblack works. installed the updates and now it works i think there's an optional update that i had installed before that was causing it to break :(

EDIT: I think there might be a specific KB that's causing video playback to break....thinking it's KB3068708.

wasn't even enabled and it happens on more players so it has to be a windows issue.

Did you download and isntall any third party codecs?

I know you already did it once, but if you ever end up doing a clean isntall again. Don't install anything, test it. Do the Windows updates, test again. Then move up the food chain of drivers and programs trying one by one and seeing if anything in particular is causing the conflict.

Can you try the videos on another computer, maybe the files are corrupted or something.

Good point. I had some .mkv files that continually crashed or wouldn't play. Fixed them using Meteorite.

I have to say from reading the posting no one has any idea what kinda video your asking about to know what to diagnosis the problem starts from where? Is it that hard to tell us the video and where you got it so other have a better idea what is going on. You said you tried on Ubuntu and they worked fine...my question is what worked fine??? You can see how unclear and ambiguous this question is?
