Well, I'v got a logitech webcam and recorded some outdoor footage during daylight. The video came out completely washed out, I can hardly see anything in it. What would be a good color adjustment to filter out the white? I've played with brightness, contrast in VLC...it helps but not a lot of improvements.

    Any suggestion?

There's not much you can do, unfortunately. You can only work so much with the information you have... if all the camera recorded is white, there's nothing you can do to change that to what it should be.

A video overexposed when recorded will yield only minor improvements at best when adjusting the brightness & contrast. If the image information isn't there to begin with (i.e. overexposed to white #FFFFFF or underexposed to black #000000), you will not be able to recover the image information later.

I suggest you re-record the video, adjusting the webcam exposure controls or exposure compensation in the recording software for proper exposure (not washed out) before you record. Any time you spend applying filters & image enhancements to the recorded video stream will ultimately be less than satisfactory.
