I use VideoLAN media player to view videos and camcorder movies on my PC. Periodically when I open the player, a message appears stating an update is available and asks me where to download it. I've tried using the VLC folder as the destination for the update files, but I receive an error stating this is not possible. For those who use the VideoLAN media player, where should I have the updates installed to? I've emailed the VideoLAN staff and posted my question to the VideoLAN forum, but did not receive a response from either source.
Thanks for reading and any suggestions.

Try putting the update on your desktop, I can't remember exactly, but maybe vlc removes any previous version before installing the new version, and if you have the new update in the old version folder, it can't do its thing.

Had tried several times on the auto-update mode - never works right. Just download the update and install it that way. It will automatically uninstall the old and install the new version.

Carrot Muncher and J&SinKTO-Thanks much for your advice. I followed your suggestions and was able to install the VideoLAN update successfully. I didn't realize previously that the update file actually installs a complete new VideoLAN player which requires activation by the user after downloading, it's not an update file that automatically acts upon the existing VideoLAN player. Now that I know this, your advice is completely logical. J&SinkTO, thanks also for letting me know I'm not the only one confused by the VideoLAN updates. +1 for each of you.
