It's kind of odd. My sister films a lot with her digital camera, and does a lot of video editing. Videos have always played. However, now, they don't play- but only on her account. On my account, and the other accounts on my laptop, videos still play. (The same videos)

The worrisome part is that this happened before, and I was stupid and I fixed it by doing a system restore. However, that came with a lot of problems on its own, so I'd rather not do that again.

    Any suggestions...?

    I have Vista, Home Edition

I tried re-installing them already, but it didn't work.

But if it were something like that, wouldn't all the accounts be affected? Not just this account? =/

    =(

Not necessarily; certain applications can be installed (or configured) on a per-user-account basis, so it's entirely possible for one user account to have access to a particular application and another user account to not have access to that same application.

    Hm. I guess that's true.

But it used to work before. =/ I don't know what to compare between the accounts. They seem the same to me. X_x

Create her a new account and see if the problem persists.

Also try giving her full admin access and see if the videos play.

Okay, I just went through all the accounts, and I realized, they aren't working either. With the exception of mine.

I made a new admin account, and it still doesn't work.

However, I noticed that it only doesn't play AVI, I think. Plays other formats. But the weird thing is, it plays some AVIs. But only the ones where the .avi isn't capitalized. And other video differences, but I don't know what else to look for there. X_x

May Be Her User Profile is corrupted , try creating a temp user and play the same video file , if its playing then what is said is true .

if its corrupted you can take backup of the important files and folders and delete the account and create another one for her ( restore back all files and settings)

I don't think so. I made a new account, and it doesn't work on that account either.

I always just used ffdshow, and it worked until recently. I tried downloading the DivX ones, but it didn't help.

Some registries got changed propably, my suspicion is in the group policies. Unless you can restore to when everything works before, I personally would look into performing a windows repair, your personal data would still be intact after the repair process.

    cheers ...
