Hi
I have a vintage Toshiba 1910 I took out of the closet after more than ten years. I had to replace a new CMOS battery because it was showing the BIOS error indicating the battery was dead.
Anyway, the problem is that when I turn it on, it goes to the extended memory testing and when it's done, the screen only goes to MS-DOS prompt and it won't start Windows 3.1.
Does it mean the hard drive was damaged during the CMOS battery replacement? I don't remember erasing any data that was in the hard drive on purpose. I can access to the BIOS settings and it shows the size of the hard drive and so on. Does it mean the HD is ok?
How do I access to Windows 3.1 from DOS prompt?
Thanks

just type: win (and press enter) it should start windows
for auto start check to autoexec.bat
Type:
edit c:\autoexec.bat
the last entry should be win
Not sure what happened to the hard disk. Is windows even installed?
type:
cd windows
dir
what do you see? does it list lots of files?
