    Hello Zero Burn,

Looks like your PC did not live up to your nickname [ ;)]
I'll try to help you , I have cleaned several laptops infected by this nasty one...
First, temporarely disable system restore. Shutdown Internet Explorere. Go to "add and remove software" in Control panel.
Look for "search assistent" or simular. Choose remove this software. (Really, a virus with an uninstaller[ :D]!) Restart Internet Explorer (Which should not trigger the search trojan startpage now anymore)Go to symantec.com, do a search for trojan startpage (or whatever variant Norton has found) to read the rest of how to remove it.

Good luck, and success, let us know.
    Mike.

If possible, change your home page from "internet options" in the control pannel before opening IE. Sounds like you may also be infected with some spyware. Adaware, Spybot, and hijackthis are a few helpfull apps.

Sharp AL27, Athlon 64 2700+ 60Gb hdd, 512Mb mem, 64Mb vid, superbright lcd. DVD +-/RW. Great choice for business use.

Best to boot into Safe mode (pressing F8 repeatedly at XP splash screen) to run the spyware/virus removal tools also to prevent respawning from the registry.

If you want to steer clear of these infestations, I would suggest you use an internet browser that is not Internet Explorer. Most of this garbage is written for Internet Explorer since that is what people most use. I would suggest Mozilla Foxfire. That is what I use. It is fast and free. There are others like Opera and Netscape to name a few. There are a few sites Mozilla doesnt't work well with, but you can use another one for those. Good Luck.

I don't know what is on the Google toolbar, but Foxfire has a Google search box in the upper left corner on the address bar.

you may have some BHO's installed on your browser and in return hijacking IE. try this to clean up the system

go to tools --> internet options --> settings --> downloaded program files --> WIPE ALL OBJECTS
    run adaware
    run spybot
    Immunize with spybot
download spyware blaster (update it as well) and protect IE against active X controls

i use registry clean expert to see my BHO's and i can remove the ones i dont want. im sure there are other programs but i cant think of any at 2:30 in the morning :)
