    Hi,

I got my new Dell E1505 last week and looks like am having a virus attack already. I foolishly downloaded something from the internet and am getting warning like this
"Critical System Errors - System detected virus activities. They may cause critical system failure. Please use AntiSpyware software to clean and protect your system from parrasite programs. Check this baloon to get all available software"

If i click on that it opens FF and tries to open www.virusbursters.com/?aff=334

I think it that page it asks to download some anti-spyware programs.....

I have downladed Ad-Aware and Spy-bot , ran both and it says that my system is clean.
I updated McAfee today and ran it , but that also didnt catch anything.

I dont know which program is causing this. There are lot of processes running while idle and am not sure which one is causing this. The waring message comes as soon as i boot up my comp.

I checked my "Add/Remove Programs" and dont see anything suspicious there except for a program called "Safety Alert 2006". But there is no further info listed there.

Can anyone help me in solving this ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

have you tried to google "Safety Alert 2006"?

well... I have and got the answer to your question in about 30 seconds.

According to someone in lavasoft forums, this is the program you can use to solve your problem.

There's also this post that you might find helpful.

Next time though try using google first. You might get your answer much faster ;)

Try PC Tools Spyware Doctor. That will remove the virus.

What program is throwing this popup onto your desktop? I know Windows doesn't care enough about it to do this.

Definitely an Ad-bot. Ad-bots are somethimes hard to get rid of and like to recreated files if you delete them or deny access to delete files.

Download and use .... Ad-aware, Spy-bot, and a REG cleaner like CCleaner.

Go to SAFE-MODE on boot-up, and use run these programs. Then restart on Normal boot-up.

Actually, I would also try the free 14 day trial of spysweeper as well, and a-squared, but keep a-squared, it's a great program.

If you have reason to believe you have a virus, ALWAYS run the virus scan in safe mode. It makes a huge difference, because safe mode does not allow most things to run, thus the virus can be removed more easily because it's not running.

check your task manager of suspicious programs that are running on your computer. I don't know if your Virus message was on a window or not. Cause it's usually some pops up that was designed to look exactly like a real windows. I think you got infected by javascript from non-trusted website. Please switch to Firefox and install No script add on to prevent attack by Javascript.

I tried what Leshii had mentioned and downloaded the prevx malware cleaner. It identified a couple of dll's that were running and cleaned them. The warning is not coming up now. I guess it has been cleaned succesfully :) :).....

Am running an extensive scan with prevx now and it seems it has identified two more malicious programs....i dont know if they are linked to the same stuff.

Yes i should have googled , but i was afraid to connect to the net , hence just logged into this forum alone.

Thanks guys , i will update you once again after prevx is done.
