Well, I was just about to download IE7 because it was trumpeted as having "higher security." Security, however, is not something that Microsoft can apparantly master.

So I went to microsoft.com and navigated to their IE7 site, when all of a sudden, avast! pops up this message:

The red arrow is pointing to the document which avast! stopped from loading. I understand that this is an ad slot, but I've only ever seen MS ads there anyway.

    What gives?

my guess is that it was just a cookie/ad/active x control/java script that avast saw as malware. doubtful that it's anything too serious but i'll check it out myself

edit: i didn't have anything load in that space.

that would be VERY funny, although I'm sure Microsoft didn't mean it.

if they did...well, it wouldn't be good for MS.

It's not really a virus, so don't worry about that.
It IS however a very annoying piece of microsoft javascripting in order to serve advertisments. And since it's a DLL file trying to execute things, avast says Hey! stop that!

I was confused when first looking at this because, like KidA, I didn't see anything trying to load in that part of the webpage. Then I realized that Firefox Adblock was preventing it from loading, since it's an advertisement. I see from your screenshot that you're using Firefox. If you don't have the Adblock extension, I'd suggest getting it.

Hitting Google with the dll filename can give you some more insight into what it is. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ADSAdClient31.dll&btnG=Google+Search (ignore the sponsored links though, anytime you search for a DLL on google it erves up links for spyware removal)
