Vista and Win7 have a nice self diagnostics and solutions "service" built into them - one normal pople can undestand. Its not the error logs.
Got to:
"Control Panel"
"System and Security"
"Check the Windows Exerience Index"
at the left hand side: "Advanced Tools"
The Window that appears has any issues listed at the top.
(ideal for "Normal" users)
You can also select the last option - "Generate a System Health Report".
This is good for people who wish more details.
This can be useful.
For example, on my Vista lappy it tells me my Wi-Fi driver slows standby, and KIS 2010 takes 68.8 seconds to start after log in...

Nice, but what about us "abnormal" users?

What I wanted to indicate that you do not need special computer knowledge to understand this.
The Windows Logs are far more extensive and often too complicated and messy for "beginners" or people who have little experiece with them.
It takes time to undestan - this just tells everybody in plain clear English (or whatever language you have installed) what the problem is, if there is a problem. -

It really is a nice condensed interpretation of the logs. A really nice find, even for us "abnormal" users.

Although rather than "abnormal" I'd say "experienced" users.
I found it purely by accident.... and it allows for information that isn't easily found in the logs - like my KIS talking 68,8 seconds to start up... ??? -

Good find.

I actually use this feature all the time and it's a good idea that MS is implementing features that allow the OS to effectively diagnose internal problems. I would highly recommend that beginners make use of these capabilities.
PS; you're right, Gary. You are very abnormal. -
