Hey everyone,
I'm a newbie to vista, so I'm going to need your help in figuring this one out... I use firefox but for some reason, i'm having compatibility issues in which I'm not able to run javascript or install adobe flash player. I was not able to find a discussion on this problem before, so I'm curious to know if this is only happening with my computer... Please ^_^ give me some advice!
-
What do you mean by compatibilty issues? I use firefox and there are no problems. Which version of firefox are you using?. To update to the most recent version click help> check for updates in the FF toolbar. Also make sure sure the default security settings are not changed. Go to tools> content tab> check everything
Lol it's time to update your signature. -
Hey, maybe its not a compatibility issue but then if thats not the case then I don't know what is. I just know that when I use firefox I'm not able to use any flashplayers... I know I have the most updated version of firefox because I just downloaded it days ago. So what is the content tab you are talking about? I was not able to find that under tools. Please help
I want to watch vids on youtube from firefox so bad because I hate IE!
-
He meant Tools>Options>Content, and make sure everything is checked. Also if you have Noscript then you'll have to allow youtube.
-
Everything was checked & I don't have noscript. My boyfriend's computer is doing the same thing. He can't watch any vids using firefox either. Ugh, this sucks. Do you guys have any other suggestions? I can't possibly think of what it could be!
-
Ok could you give me a list of your extensions? And click here and tell me if youtube works for you.
-
Nevermind. I figured it out, I just had to change the browser setting via the control panel and enable java to work in the "mozilla family." Thanks for your help though
-
wait.. scratch that last post! It didn't work! ugh..
-
oh and where do I find a list of my extensions? sorry, i'm not that technically brilliant!
-
oh, woohoo. final update! It is fixed. thanks though!
-
Err, you might want to watch the quadruple posting but i'm glad it's fixed. What'd you do?
-
-
IE just doesn't have the security features that are available with firefox. I just feel like my computer is vulnerable when I use it.
I just had to do a manual installation of Adobe flash player after I extended Java to work in Mozilla. -
-
Anyway I don't find even a single issue with IE. -
-
Well not having ActiveX is a biggie. Then there's noscript which blocks all unknown scripts which has saved me many times when visiting an unknown site. Also firefox updates every 2 weeks because they are getting rid of security holes. Which IE doesn't do. That's the biggest reason why FF is safer. For proof check secunia.com.
-
Calvin is right. Mozilla gets right to work on fixing security holes in a timely fashion, while Microsoft takes their good old time fixing them or sometimes ignoring them for months on end.

The reason there are more updates for Firefox than for IE is that Firefox gets updated.
In terms of Firefox functionality, IE7 hasn't been updated since 1998. -
One more reason for frequent update of firefox is that they are still fixing bugs and issues. -
Well, since the topic has shifted to IE vs FF...
Personally, FF > IE, because FF has those great extensions. Hate ads? Adblock. Tired of how FF looks? Choose and download a theme. There's even an extension that allows FF to browse through IE-only content [IETab].
FF is updated more frequently because it needs to catch up in terms of compatibility with newer software and hardware [example: 2.0.0.8 for Leopard compatibility].
IE isn't as "buggy" as FF partly because IE is used in conjunction with Windows. MS IE + MS Windows? Microsoft + Microsoft? -

quadruple posters and is it better or worse than the triple putz poster
or just as lame as the guy who posts posts because they are bored? -
I'm not the poster police it's just that in the rules they tell you not to double post but it's ok if your doing it for two separate major posts but that quadruple post could've been avoided.
-
Let's end the battle of the browsers with this.

Me thinks the biggest reason IE is avoided is the possibility that activex controls can be installed without a persons knowledge. This alone makes IE very dicey to use. Most of this issue can be resolved with a few mouse clicks in the right places, but most people don't bother and that's why IE has been trashed as much as it has.
Personally FF is my browser of choice. Just cause it suits my needs. IE only gets used for Microsoft updates. -
You don't need IE for MS update. Just get it through windows update.
Vista + Firefox issues... please help!
