I know I should have trusted my instincts, but I didn't listen to them.

I installed Norton Internet Security 2007 on my Vista OS...and it BSOD's at start up. "Paged Fault in a Non-Paged Area" if I remember the error correctly. As soon as a rebooted to the last known working condition (aka before I installed Norton) I was fine...but Norton wouldn't boot up even with all the files and folders in place. So now I'm uninstalling it and I'm going to try again.

The funny thing here is that I downloaded NIS2007 for Vista on their Vista compability pages. I guess it isn't that compatible after all.

I'd like to try to ride out my subscription (don't want to waste the money) with Norton and then move my business elsewhere, but does anyone know how to get this darn program working?

Your ram could be bad/corrupting. Run Memtest86+ overnight and see if it gets anything.

But on EVERY boot up? I uninstalled Norton and was fine...

I'll run the test, but my hunch is that the RAM isn't the problem.

Running Norton's Product-Nuker right now to attempt a clean install again before I do the mem test.

A Page Fault in a Non-Paged usaully related to the page file which is related to the ram or OS. Since Memtest is easier to do then reparing/reinstalling the OS, why not try that first to make sure its not the RAM.

Also try updating all your drivers.
And hopefully its just Nortons problem that a Update will fix.

andy - That's the program I downloaded that BSODed me.

Kdawg - No memory errors...but no BSODs either after uninstalling Norton. Since I just installed Vista earlier yesterday, I just reinstalled (I didn't lose any settings since Norton was the first thing to go on there).

Looks like I'll be going to Best Buy for a copy of Trend Micro's stuff.

avg 7.5 (as many have concurred) & avast r working perfectly under vista - both ar FREE. Plus vista firewall & defender, I personally see no need for dolling out $$$ for virus scanner just yet, may be after vista is being around after a while

    cheers ...

I have a contrary experience. I download the installer for Vista (about 50 MB), installed it, register and run Live Update without any problems. Maybe you have conflicting program in the Windows, some driver run in compatibility mode, corrupt file system, etc.

I am really sorry if you have trouble running NIS 2007. As my experience told me, NIS 07 its the best Norton product ever released. The package is slim, only occupy 43 MB in your harddrive. It is definitely not a resource hog. I open Outlook 2007, Internet explorer and WMP without any delay. Switching between windows happened instantly. For a week usage the program does not slow down the system at all.

Comparing with my past experience with NAV 05 and XP, NIS 07 is the best purchase i ever made with Symantec.

Well, I'm going to do a Shadow Copy of my hard drive and try again. If it fails this time...

I also re-downloaded the installer just to make sure I didn't receive a corrupted file.

EDIT: It was a corrupted file... I redownloaded and even the size was different...sad.

Does your version of Norton Internet Security 2007 contain Save and Restore? Save and Restore causes problems with Vista since Microsoft have their own software that does a similar function pre-installed on the OS. All new retail versions of NIS 2007 don't contain Save and Restore and work fine with Vista. You could try re-installing NIS 2007 without Save and Restore and see how that works out.

I put Vista Ultimate 32bit on my desktop last night. I uninstalled NIS 07 before I did, downloaded the latest version and put it on an external HD. I just did the upgrade route with Vista and it went fine. I installed NIS and it's fine. No issues at all. Not going to Vista on my laptop anytime soon though.

I bought NIS 2007 from a retailer and when i inserted the CD to install it on a Vista Ultimate machine it didn't install and just said that it is not compatible with Vista. But, when i dowloaded a copy from the Symanted website it installed perfectly and QUICKLY (a new thing to Norton Internet Security). I second the opinion that NIS 2007 is the best Norton ever, especially for being easy on the resources. After uninstalling NIS 2005from my previous laptop 2 years ago i sweared not to go back to Norton products; they consumed resources and disc space like hell. But NIS 2007 is different. I read its review on pcmag.com and it gained the editor's choice award. What's even better is its antispyware protection. In pcmag.com tests it scored as high as Webroot Spysweeper in detecting, preventing spyware from installing and removing spyware. Now i don't have to install my Spysweeper version, which saves both system resources and money!!!
