    hi,

i've just got my new laptop, and its the first time i've had vista. From the factory the HD was partitioned 50/50 with the OS on C: and empty drive D: is labled DATA. How can i make it so that the 'documents', 'pictures' and 'music' folders remain solely on drive D:? basically the contents of the folder called 'users' and so those quick links on the start menu take me to D also

    thanks for the help

well i created a folder called 'users' on drive D and then one of my name within that folder. Went to move the first one 'Desktop' into the folder of my name, and it just moved into the new 'users' folder and the folder of my name has vanished. Also, there is still a copy of 'Desktop' in my original users folder?

I did what Indrek is instructing you to do a few days ago.

I have my OS and all the start up programs I want on my 32 Gig SSD. Everything else goes onto my 250 Gig HDD to keep the OS drive as free of clutter and changes as possible.

The only thing you may want to keep in mind is that when installing programs/apps, you need to make sure the destinatin path is where you want it to be installed. Usually the default destination will be C:........something.

So far it's worked out very well for me.

Thanks for the help guys. Is there a way of restoring the default 'Users' folders, after trying to move 'Desktop' back to C:/users/username, is has now screwed all the folder system up! and i cant get it back to how it was

Ive got duplicate 'desktop' and affiliated files everywhere, C:users/username folder is now called C:users/desktop... i thought vista was meant to make file management easier?!?!?!

what you need to do to move the folder is right click on the folder, then click the location tab, then click move.

Make sure before you move the folder, there is already a new documents, usic, video etc folder where you want it to go.

Well if only it was as simple as you make it sound. Well it probably is but i've manage to make a hash of it. Well its worked ok for the 'pictures' and 'music' folders, although it has still left duplicates in the default location. but with the 'documents' folder ive somehow ended up with 3 'documents' folders in the C:users/username location, and one of those has the usual yellow folder icon. Its seems as though when i try and creat a new 'documents' folder on drive D, it has created a duplicate in C:users/username. It also seems as though when i look at the properties of the 3 'documents' folders in C:users etc, only the one with the normal folder icon has a 'location' tab in the properties window.

    Is this at all fixable?

Are you right clicking on the original ones that you no longer want and using the options to move them to your new locations? You need to do this for each folder you are trying to move.
