I've been running Vista 64 bit for the last month. I've noticed a reoccurring problem now with sleep mode. Sometimes, I'll try to wake the computer after sleep to find it has crashed. No screen, no message, just black and no sign of response.
Has anyone else experienced this?

try updating your display drivers mate
-
Thanks, I have done that.
-
Sleep mode depends on close interaction with hardware, so the first step I would take is to look at a bios update
-
Check the Event Viewer (logs) for errors....

I also have the same problem with my Asus V1S with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit! My computer simply shut down (no blue screen appeared) when I try to wake it up from Standby mode! I've just updated my drivers to the latest ones. Help!
P.S. I have not encountered any problem with my XP MCE installed in D: -
I had that problem, then I ran Windows Update which updated some of my device drivers, and the problem went away.
-
Good idea. Boy the event log sure has changed a bit from xp...
Anyway, here is what I found from the first 'system' event this morning:
error:
The previous system shutdown at 9:31:24 PM on 11/3/2008 was unexpected.
Last night at 9:31 is when I must have closed the lid on my laptop to go to sleep; however it's saying the system shutdown. -
CONTROL PANEL > POWER OPTIONS > System Settings
What is the setting for when you close your lid? -
I had the same issue too , it used to shutdown unexpectedly before after i updated my device drivers and sound it got fixed ... all i can say is check the even log and reliability and performance monitor.

Sleepy. (asdfasdfsdfDAS)_
-
Was there a final solution to this problem? I am experiencing the same thing.
-
For me, no. What I do now is wait for my laptop to show that it's sleeping. If it doesn't start sleeping within 20 seconds I'll open the lid to find the login screen (not a crash). Then I simply close the lid again and it goes to sleep.
Weird, but works. -
I would just like to quote myself and give an update - I'm such a doofus. I have the Logitech MX wireless mouse with dock to charge. What I would do is close the laptop lid and then put the mouse in the dock. What I didn't realize was that sometimes I was moving the mouse inadvertently as the laptop was going to sleep, which would wake it up.
Duh.
From now on - mouse in dock, then close lid. -
Go into Device Manager, right-click the mouse, Properties. If there's a Power Management tab, there should be an option like "Allow this device to wake the computer". Uncheck it. Also do this for all your other devices where this option appears.

Oh good call, thanks!
