I have an Asus G1s with Vista home premium. There is an odd thing that happens on occasion when i boot up. If it happened consistently, it may be easier for me to figure out the cause but i am leaning towards the Windows updates being one of the possibilities.

Basically, when I start up the system, at times (meaning not ever day) the resolution changes to 800x600 within a minute or two, and I have to manually reset it to native at 1680x1050. Each time I check the drivers and they are the same as I installed ( 163.11's) so windows isn't rolling back the drivers.

How weird is this? Any thoughts about what's going on?

Welcome to Windows. Where things change, and you don't know why. Microsoft changes lots of little things randomly, without telling the user. I'd wager that it's either the updates like you suspect, or perhaps just the drivers being flaky and improperly reading a value from the registry or something periodically.

I had the same problem with my G2S, it was bugging me since I bought it last year. You can fix it by hitting Windows+R, "msconfig" and then in the "Boot" tab, un-tick the option "Basic video"!
