The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Vista - why do all the icons look the same...

    ...ok, not really exactly the same, but there's a half dozen or so main icons which are very similar. I sometimes I'm having to pause and wait for the tip still and I've been using Vista on and off for a month now.
    show desktop
    switch between windows
    computer management (where device manager, disk manager, etc are)
    explorer
    wifi
    more blue teenie tiny icons
    You could include IE, though since it hasn't changed much it's not a problem.
    Not bad enough that they change icons we've become used to, but even if you want to change it under properties you can't get the old XP icon


    Anyone make a little library 'pack' of icons which are XPish? Or can I somehow extract these from XP (it dual boots too.)

    umm i have no idea what your talking about. but i have no problem telling what my icons are. but then again i use keyboard shortcuts so i leave no icons on my desktop.
