I am about to order a notebook and have the option of 32 or 64 bit vista. I have looked online and can't really find any differences that make sense to me? What do you recommend?

    Thanks,

    Phil

Either one will work pretty much the same. If you have 4GB of RAM, then you'll probably want 64-bit, as 32-bit can't use it all. Otherwise, right now they are pretty equal.

Using my reinstall guide (link in sig), you can also switch between them if you find that one works and the other one doesn't.

Re: volume button: it didn't work because you didn't have the drivers installed (realtek/connexant audio drivers).

Make sure all the programs you plan on using are compatible with 64 bit Vista.

Hmm, maybe you also had quicktouch installed? That one isn't really needed and when I used it it seemed like it was unstable or bloated for what it did.
