I have noticed that whenever I turn my laptop on and its booting up, it gets hung up after the Windows loading screen. I don't think that I have installed any software that would have effected this and I have run scandisk but with nothing. Any help or suggestions would be awesome.

Is there just a black screen until the glowing Vista orb shows up? Because I think I have the same problem; its just that I don't view it as a big issue. Vista's start up time is less than stellar anyways.

Yea it hangs up right after the lame loading screen and before the vista glowing orb. Its not that annoying but I was concerned that something was wrong.

I have this issue on my desktop as well. Do you have any external hard drives, jump drives, memory cards, etc. plugged in? My external hard drive causes the problem for me...but screwing around in the diskmgmt dialogue to fix my drive letters if I leave it off during boot takes more time than waiting out the hang, so I'm kind of SOL lol.

AH-HA!! I had a SD card in the slot and when I took it out, it booted up really quick.

Have you installed Service Pack 1 yet? It seems to have lessened the problem somewhat on my machine, though it's still not gone entirely.

Bottom line is that Vista's boot time sucks either way...

You people with slow boot times, how long is "slow" for you?

My computer (with 39 processes, services tweaked, disks defragged, etc) starts in at least two minutes. In XP it used to be 45 seconds maximum. Hibernation is just as slow.

Now my laptop boots up wickedly fast now. I timed it at 46 seconds.

I've had exactly the same problem! Mine skips the boot screen quickly, then freezes on the blank screen until the orb. I am talking a total boot of ~60 secs, but I have done every tweak possible, and followed Les' guide. With similar tweaks on last month's install of Vista 32 bit, I was getting ~35 secs.

Any ideas? Or is Vista x64 generally slower to boot for any reason?

    Running Vista 64 Sp1 btw

Do you use that ReadyBoost feature?? And if you do, do you leave the flash memory plugged in while its booting?

No, I don't use readyboost as I don't have an SD card- I thought it was more advantageous if you have less RAM?

I really don't know why it sticks on the blank screen. It's after the vista boot screen. It goes black, stays like that for a while, then the screen actually switches off for a second, then the orb appears. From that point on, vista is ready amazingly quickly.

I read some thing online that says that bootleg copies of Vista has a lot of bugs...maybe this is your problem?
