Vista x64 does not have compatibility issues the was XP x64 did, and it's sooo much faster. x64 hands down.

i dunno if it makes a diff but right now we will be order the laptops with 3 gig ram. and maybe sometime down the road upgrade to 4 but which OS would be faster and run better with 3 gigs.

Well if you want max software compatibility - go for 32-bit....
If you want a slim gain in performance and >3GB ram - go for 64-bit....( and then you can dual-boot the system with an OEM version of XP for compatibility with some old software..!!)

Most old software is not compatible....the new ones will be and some may have fixes, updates and patches available, because x64 is the future....
Increased driver support is also available for Vista x64....

Pretty much anything (besides drivers) that runs on Vista 32 bit will run on Vista 64 bit angad.... it's not like Vista 32 bit gives you extra compatibility. And it's not a small performance increase, the difference is day and night between 32 bit and 64 bit Vista. As for memory - Vista 64 bit isn't more resource intensive or anything. I suggest XP for 2-3GB or less, Vista x64 for 3-4GB or more.

I've been running 64-bit Vista for many months now. Definitely go 64-bit. 32-bit Vista shouldn't even exist.

Well, maybe yes....But CPUcool and Phoenix BIOS Editor didn't run on Ultimate 64, so had to go back to Ultimate 32 :(, to continue on with my experiments.. :D

Got 2 articles on x64 here and here, one's a bit old and the other is fairly new....

either one you order, you're going to have to do a clean install anyways(you can install 64 bit during the process). If you don't do a clean install you're new computer will be super loaded with crap and will be slow.

    Vista x64 ftw.
