    Hope someone may know this:

If I do the full backup using windows backup program, then re-raid my drives to another level (RAID 5) that will result in a smaller drive.

-Assuming that that the backup data will fit on the smaller space-

Can I do the restore to the new smaller drive? Or does a full windows backup do a whole image and so will give me an error on size mismatch when I try and restore?

    Thanks.

Define "full windows backup". Do you mean "Complete PC Backup", or are you doing a full backup using "Backup files"?

Complete PC Backup makes an image of the system, so it depends on if your RAID card needs a driver, which might not be included in the backup image. If you are using "backup files", then it should restore them OK.

If you do complete PC backup, and it doesn't work after you change to RAID, you can just change your disks back and then restore from the image.

Yup, I was talking about "Complete PC Backup".

Good advice none the less, thanks.
