    Hi all,

I currently run vista 64bit, and I want to install 64. All my important files I have on D :partition.
If I install vista 64, will this D: partition be formatted (100 procent sure it won't?!)

    Thx a lot

You state that you have Vista 64 bit installed, but you want to reinstall it? or do you have a 32 bit os (XP, Vista, Linux) and you want to upgrade this to Vista 64 bit? Either way, you will not format the D partition as long as you select to only install Vista to one partition, in your case the primary partition (C).

Edit: On your G1S, it is very easy. Set the computer to boot from optical drive, insert the recovery dvd, and continue from there with the above information. As with any major computer changes, backup any information that you will not be able to live without. Good luck.

you mean you want to do a reinstall? You get to choose during setup which partition you install onto. Your D: won't be formatted unless you tell it to.

oops, yes i mean I have vista 32 now, and want to go to 64 :s
Man stupid typo. Installing 64 with recovery isnt possible I think? I can use the driver cd, but the recovery will install 32bit

The recovery disc will only put back Vista 32 bit (the one that originally came with your laptop).
You will need Vista 64bit installation dvd in order to install that OS.

If you are installing Vista on a C partition, then the D partition will not be affected (unless you order Windows to format the D partition ... which of course is something you WON'T do given the fact you backed up your data there).

Yes you will need a 64bit Vista install disc.

Be very careful when you get to the disc formatting part of the installation.

Make sure you only format C: and install on it.
