    Vista = more heat/fan noise?

    does vista mean more heat and fan noise? if so, i will get XP

    Haven't heard of such a thing. Aero glass doesn't affect processing power, at least not noticeably, only RAM.

    It doesn't affect processing power, but Aero does enable the 3D mode of the graphics chip, which will use more power. You may get more heat and more fan usage if you enable Aero and use Vista.

    If you have a good fan and keep it dust-free then noise shouldn't be problem. you have much more chances of getting more noise due to dust or bad fan berrings than vista itself.

    I noticed that my CPU is 4 degrees higher while idling on Vista than on XP. When doing intensive multitasking, it's easily 7+ degrees higher

    dual boot xp/vista
    vista (ultimate) is running cooler and quieter than xp
    specs in sig

    Vista's persistant indexing and lots of background services does equal higher temps. Especially with the hard drive since it does so much indexing.

    Run Dream Scene or what ever its called. Your PC will run hotter, and the battery will suck down like a big gulp on a very hot day.
