My HD crashed so i got a new one and installed a clean copy of Vista. Now i need to activate it within 30 days. The Microsoft sticker with the product key under the laptop has faded. I called HP and then wont give me the product key that came with the laptop. I see a product key listed under control panel/system but i suspect it belongs to the clean Vista copy i installed and i do not want to use it as i have a valid one that came with the laptop. What are my options to get this activated? Thanks

Was it a new copy of Vista or the copy that came with the laptop?

I installed a new copy from a disc i got from my friend. Totally clean install. I also forgot to mention that while HP refused to give me the product ID, they were willing to send me recovery discs................for a $20 fee.
