I have a Dell laptop running Vista. Last week, Vista said it wanted to automatically upgrade my computer. I said Okay. It needed to reboot to finishing installing the upgrade.
It got to 3 of 3 and 0% complete and stalled. After a couple of hours I did a hard shutdown. When I rebooted it got stuck at the same place. Then I did a hard shutdown again. Then I rebooted in Safe Mode. It still got stuck at the 3 of 3 and 0% complete mark and will go no further. What else can I try?

Kevin, Go into BIOS and set to Boot from CD/DVD drive first, then shutdown. Then follow this procedure Startup Repair: frequently asked questions
There are warnings here : Vista Support: 76. Repair A Vista Installation Using The Upgrade Option Of The Vista DVD
Basically do not do reinstall, you will lose data.
If you want to be 100% safe, remove the hard drive and attach it to another computer and back it up before doing anything.
