    I have ordered a Compaq c774TU.

    It has a Celeron 550 2.0GHz
    1GB DDR2 RAM
    80 GB Ram
    DVDRW
    Wifi B&G
    5 in 1 Card Reader

and it has Vista Basic, I was wondering is it worth upgrading to home premium? I have the home premium disc, wondering if it is worth installing because of the low specs.

    Thanks. :)

Premium will run with 1Gb but I would recommend upgrading to 2Gb for any version of Vista.

Keep in mind that Vista Basic does not come with Windows Media Center, if you are planning on using that.

Also, a lot depends on your configuration. Windows Vista Home Basic requires only 512MB RAM.

Home Premium should have a minimum of 2GB RAM to run well, IMHO.

I run Ultimate on my Acer Aspire 4315 (Celeron 540, 1.5GB RAM, X3100), and it is surprisingly fast. As AndrewM said, it is a good idea to upgrade the RAM, but there is no reason why Home Premium won't run fine on the system. Seeing as you have the disc, install it, and if you feel it's too slow, just go back to Home Basic.

Why do you upgrade to home premium anyway? You can download third party programs to make basic nearly as good as ultimate.

Thankyou for all the replies, I think I will install home premium, and if I like it, but it's too slow/laggy I will just upgrade them ram to 2gb, it has 1x 1 GB chip in it, i was expecting it to have 2x 512 MB. I will try and find a matching one to make sure it's DC.
