Is the Vista Bit Locker Encryption systm enough if I get a notebook with no TPM chip or fingerprint reader?

Lets say if someone stole my notebook and removed the harddrive and it was encrypted with the vista bit locker system, could they still access the data?

I didn't think you could use Bitlocker without TPM?

i'm pretty sure you can. it works in a similar fashion to PGP, and you need to generate keys which happens during the drive prep and setup. keys get backed up online.
