Well ive heard similar things to this, but its not the same.

When Vista loads up, it loads a couple of things (in the tray), then there is no activity from the HDD or CPU... it just stops loading for about 10 seconds, but the systems isnt hanging, i can load things up etc.. after the 10 seconds or so it loads up kaspersky, then ATI catalyst software.

    Any cures?

Its not major, or really annoying... it would just be a bonus to fix.

Check out TuneXP 1.5. It works for Vista and can help speed up boot times by defragging your boot files and re-arranging them so that they are located on the front of your disk. There are also many other tweaks which help speed things up. Hope that helps.

NONE, I repeat NONE of the other tweaks in that app are being suggested as safe for use with Vista. Only the "UltraFast Boot" option.

Careful with TuneXP on Vista. Based on a tweak thread here (by Flamenko I think) I tried it and started getting random BSOD's every two days or so. First time I experienced BSOD's on my Vista machine after months of use, and appeared shortly after I ran the recommended tweaks.

They were never serious and I always recovered from them, but understand that there may be consequences from using a program meant for another OS.

    For what it's worth.

    Regards,
    Paolo

    the same here

i think it is a vista related bug with some hardware issues.

    i can't find a solution 6 months now...

    and:

    @blkballoon925
I've been having the same problem for about two months on my Dell Inspiron 6400 with Vista Ultimate. I understand that it's not an HP or a Tablet, but I thought I would share this bit of information and hopefully it might help someone resolve this issue for all of us.

i think its randomly universal. :(

i think it has to do with Kaspersky because before i put it on my computer i didnt have a pause and afterwards i noticed a hang in the startup, and it always happens right before Kaspersky loads up.

Did you use ANYTHING other than the "Ultrafast Boot" tweak in TuneXP? That one is perfectly safe (see my dissection of what it does over in Flamenko's thread. Here is a link to the specific message TuneXP exposed). But all of the rest in TuneXP should be avoided like the plague!!! None of them are known to be safe under Vista.

You could use MSCONFIG to temporarily disable it to see if it is the source of the pause.

I have this same issue but I'm running McAfee. While I doubt anything is wrong, I do find the pause a bit annoying. I can live with it, but would be great to find out why it's happening.

It has nothing to do with any anti virus programs I used Norton Internet Security I don't see any issues. I ran TuneXP, Diskeeper, disable TMM, etc it rans a lot better than before. Also I unstalled many crapwares off my hard drive for good.

Have you turned off the secondary monitor? Search on TMM and you'll find the details. Oh, what the heck. Here.

I know exactly what you're talking about...but it has nothing to do with that...this is a solid 10 second 'freeze', you can't click the windows orb, your mouse will be very slow in reacting...this is something entirely different....not a screen flicker issue. thanks for the link though

I've never seen that on my Vista. I have seen it on other PCs, dating back to Windows 2.1, when a local printer is not connected at startup.

    i've found a solution :D :)

the problem was with the workstation service (as another member noticed), but if you stop this service you have no wlan.

so i installed VMware player 2.0 (which generates a fake ethernet connection) and the delay is gone ;)
