This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Thanks for the link. I will have to wait until February before I can consider getting the software. I have a suspicion you can't do the anytime upgrade program if you're currently residing in China though.

    oem = computer company built you computer
    retail = support via microsoft

    retail is also not tie to the spefic computer like oem

    Yes vista can cost that much too

    http://www.bjwne.com/en.asp <-- these guys are a Microsoft authorised reseller in China.. could be worth a look if you're residing there for a while? I can't read the language so couldn't tell you where they are based though! The English language section of the site is very minimal.

    Thanks for the link. If they are authorized Microsoft distributors they have a peculiar way of showing it since their product lineup doesn't have Vista in it. They have Exchange Server and Visio but none of the Operating Systems (checked the chinese product lineup).

    When I tried going through Microsoft's webpage as to taking up the anytime upgrade route it seems their website scans your computer's IP and if it doesn't match their database of locales supporting the program they will give you an error message, essentially forcing users to go through the retail route or buying a new notebook loaded with Vista.
