When I run the checkdisk command from CMD, it gets 13% done and then a Vista "solutions" thing pops up saying that it has failed, and it will notify me if a solution is found (ha). It ends abruptly when my computer starts up as well, but since Windows isn't loaded, I don't get that message.

    WTF?

    did you run chkdsk c: /f /r?
if it doesnt work you might want to try chkdsk /v to see on what file it fails. Maybe you can just delete it since it is broken anyway.

Yep, I just tried that and just about every other logical combination of commands and I still can't get Checkdisk to even complete... I always get that Windows message.

    This is beyond frustrating!

I would suggest that you download a hard disk utility. There are a few good ones for dos that start from cd like Drive Fitness Test from Hitatchi or the western digital utilities work for windows XP (i havent tried Vista but it might work). Scan the hard disk with them to check if there might be a hardware problem.

Okay, I'll try that, but it's too late tonight.

    Thanks for your help.
