This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    what does the compatibility mode actually do and will choosing it run all my applications and games even if they wernt created with vista in mind

    Vista attempts to emulate an older OS, though it doesn't always work.

    I find that it almost always doesn't work. if you have a program that truly requires XP or earlier, Vista won't run it very well, if at all. Probably Vista's biggest problem is good backward compatibility.
