So just a while ago my anti-virus software prompted me to restart my computer (AVG free 9.0) so that it can be properly updated, after exiting all windows and restarting I can not get past the loading screen's due to the fact that they crash. (Or it keeps restarting it self.) I am running windows vista 64 on the laptop in my sig.
Right before it restarts it flashes a blue screen that I was able to get a quick look at saying that MSVCR80.dll was not found.
Also I am unable to load my system to an earlier save point that I have.
The question is can I reinstall this without losing all of my stuff? And how can I reinstall it if I can't get past the loading screen?
Also if this is in the wrong area to post this could you please direct me to the proper one?
    Thanks in advance.

OK after A little digging around I found out that it was the AVG that did my computer in. Still not sure what I can do now :\

Press F8 to get to the Windows Boot Options, choose disable auto restart on failure will allow you to see the error msg.

Likewise, same procedure, you can enter Safe Mode from there - maybe you'll be able to uninstall AVG from there and IF that's the problem boot again normally.

download Who Crashed and see if you can run it once you get into safe mode as Trixster mentioned by pressing F8 continuously on boot up. post the dump report and we will try and advise further.
also why not try a different a/v like avast free HERE. ive been using it for the last year and its much better than avg which i used to use before.
also what firewall have you got activated.

also take a look here as its a known problem since last update http://forum.notebookreview.com/sec...ve-latest-avg-update-start-getting-bsods.html

Hey Trixster101 and MrDj, Thanks for the advice but after trying it I just got fed up and just popped in the recovery CD. Kinda frustrated this happened.
Anybody know a good alternative to AVG?

you can take the hdd take it to a computer store and tell them to take all the data you needed then install it again on your laptop and install vista/xp whatever os you want
