Well, I reformatted my laptop today, and after installign all the drivers, I decided to install a bunch of software- ccleaner, adobe flash, adobe reader, firefox w/ addons, itunes, firstclass, and trillian. After restarting my laptop (vista was isntalling those updates that you need after you reformat your laptop for the first time), and then after that when the laptop reached the screen where you see the microsoft logo, it crashed. I went on safe mode and then restarted my laptop, only to wait several minutes for the laptop to boot up... I did some mroe restarts and the laptop seems fine and I called tech support, and the customer service representative said that I shouldnt instal a bunch of software at the same time. The laptop is quick but I just wanted to know if this will cause permanent problems or should I reformat again for the third time in less than a week (not laptop issues really, all my fault for downloading bad software both times.) Is my laptop in trouble or should I just wait it out? Thanks.

Too hard to say. Initially I would tell you to reformat, but it sounds like you're not really in the mood to do that =D

If you do decide to reformat I recommend installing Vista, installing the bare minimum drivers, then run ALL vista updates, and the install your programs and the bulk of your drivers (even your display driver).

without knowing the nature of the crash, it is impossible to speculate.

Crash meaning blue screen, crash meaning frozen screen, crash meaning fell of your desk.

"Doctor, something somewhere in my body is not right, but I won't tell you where or what is not right. What's wrong with me?"

See, that doesn't make sense, but time and time again, that is what people ask on computer help forums all over the internet.

Crash means different things to different people, but "while starting my computer, I got a blue screen with a stop error code of 0x00008e with parameters
(0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000002). At the time this error occured, the screen had just changed from the scrolling bar to the welcome screen. I had not clicked on the profile yet."

Now, of course there are going to be questions after that, but at least you are giving someone something to go on.

No blue screen of death. The vista logo appeared after you see that bar... The crash was the type of crash when you hear the same repetitive sound over and over again.... I think I might reformat next week after I go to vacation...

    Also

Reformatting 3 times in a week wont hurt my laptop though will it?

no--if I understand you, it sounds like a faulty audio driver.

check if there are audio driver updates and I wouldn't worry about it

the no was, reinstalling will not hurt it anymore than running your computer for the same amount of time....reactivating it again will likely result in a phone call to MS, though
