For some reason, everytime I install a new program and it adds a desktop shortcut, Vista will double all the icons on my desktop...
Then when I go to delete half of them, it deletes all of them. The icons are not in the recycling bin, not in the desktop folder. Forcing me to make shortcuts for all my icons everytime.
Any ideas on a fix?

It could just be a graphical glitch. Have you tried rebooting after Vista doubles your icons?
-
Check your All Users\Desktop folder (not on Vista machine now, so can't verify that the path is right) before and after the install. If both are there after the reboot, that'd be something to look at. If just one is in all users, and another is in your personal desktop folder, then that is the issue.
What programs are causing this? Any program that wants to install a shortcut? -
Its weird, I think it has to do with the users like you said. There is only one user, myself. But if I go into my user folder, then desktop, there isnt any icons in there, yet they are on the desktop.
Yet if I go into the public folder, then desktop, there is all the icons.
So then I restart, just to see what it does, and it doubles all my desktop icons that are shortcuts. So I go to delete half of them, and boom... all go to the recycling bin.
So I try to restore the icons. They appear, but they dont work. They just say that the shortcuts location doesnt exist anymore, which says that the desktop folder for my user is in another folder inside my documents, but its not.
And.... if I install a new program and the program creates a desktop shortcut, it will put the icon in a folder in my documents named desktop, even though the Vista provided desktop folder is right next to it.
Any ideas?
