I recently purchased a cheap 4-port usb hub (off ebay)...u know..the little plastic external ones which source all their power from a single port...
Anyways, when plugging it into vista, it registeres it as an "unknown device" for the drivers..and doesnt work.

Any ideas on how i could get this to work? it worked fine on my old XP laptop...and as my new laptop has a shortage of ports, i desperately need it!!

    Thanks in advance

"Unknown Device" typically means there is something wrong with the part.

my charlatan work around was to manually force vista to look at the driver in windows\system32\driverstore (and/or windows\system32) folder - do not let it search automatically by itself :)

    cheers ...

OK i have tried directing the search...i know nothing is wrong with the part becuase it works fine on my XP laptop....its would seem as though the "generic usbhub.sys" or whatever file it is, doenst work the same way.
Any ideas/if it was possible...on how to get XP drivers into vista?

    thanks again

may be there is no such thing as "generic hub" under vista. try to plug in a device onto the hub and see if vista is going for new hardware recognition, and then the redirection of the driver search as above

    cheers ...

Why would a hub need a driver at all?
