For those looking to upgrade to Vista when it arrives on Jan. 30, Microsoft has officially announced a Vista Family Pack offer for those who need 2 or 3 licenses to the new OS. You will need to buy 1 copy of Vista Ultimate (full or upgrade) at retail (Full: $399 Upgrade: $259 -- both MSRP), and then you can go to the Microsoft website at http://www.windowsvista.com/FamilyOffer and purchase up to 2 additional licenses of Vista Home Premium for only $49.99. Boxed retail copies of Vista Home Premium sell for Full: $239 and Upgrade: $159, so that's a pretty big savings.
So, for instance: instead of buying three upgrade copies of Vista Home Premium for $477 (3 x $159), you can buy one copy of Vista Ultimate + 2 Home Premium licenses for $357 (1 x $259 + 2 x $49), a savings of $120, plus one of your machines gets a license to run Ultimate.
Also, for home users, Microsoft is releasing Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 for $149 on Jan. 30, also. The Home and Student version includes the new versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, and includes licenses for three machines. Outlook is not included in the Home and Student edition, however, Vista includes the new Windows Mail and Windows Calendar apps that do almost everything Outlook does.
(Note: The family pack offer is good Jan. 30 - June 30, 2007, and is currently only being offered to North American customers. The website I linked to won't go "live" until Jan. 30 also. In the meantime you can go to http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/jan07/01-17ConsumerOptionsPR.mspx for the press release.)

I saw about it on CNET just twenty minutes ago. I couldn't find a link, so thanks for informing everyone! And me as well on the link part
.
This is a good idea. I have four computers at home (three desktops, one laptop), so upgrading to Vista in this form would be much cheaper. Plus, my dad's business computer will appreciate Vista Ultimate, while the rest of them will be perfect with Home Premium.
Perfect scenario for me!
