20 Months since I switched to Vista, I have not encountered a single case in which I could have put the Flip 3D into use. Of course only when I want to brag which doesn't even impress people anymore.

This does not mean, however, that I do not do a lot of stuff simultaneously.
It's a useless feature, end of.

    What do you think?

Agreed. Although every Windows version needs a pointless feature no-one will use. Windows 7 has "aero peek".

As pointless as a eunuch in a brothel.

I honestly have no idea - but eyecandy isn't necessarily a bad thing, even if it is useless.

Flip 3d as in the cascading 3d windows? If so, very very useful to me. Normally when I have many things going on, whether it be encoding/decoding dvds, checking the state of an installation or download, or even seeing other applications running whilst taking a movie off fullscreen for a second with a button (I have an MX Revolution), the Flip 3d has allowed me to do these things quicker and easier than even pressing alt tab like I previously did in Windows Xp.

This is feature I am glad was introduced to windows.

i like it too, i have the same mouse, the mx revolution has a side wheel which your thumb is always on. Flick it forward and you start scrolling through windows, so minimizing to get to another window would take longer that flicking your thumb

I changed the wheel to be my volume and the one touch search to be my flip. I love it. Best mouse I've used.

But I guess I can understand it serves no real purpose to someone who cannot access it quickly (i.e. going to the button next to the start button to use it)

I have LOTS of desktop resolution enough to have all my application open in their own visible window. :) Though on my laptop when i have to use it again i never do. Maybe its teaching an old dog new tricks type of thing but i much prefer to do alt tab instead.

I completely agree. Haven't used it in any practical situation besides testing it out to see what it is and occasionally showing it to people.

I think this is a useless feature and microsoft only put it there for a bit of eyecandy. Looks good though.

i have widened my taskbar buttons to always fill the taskbar together, and enlarged my previews to be about a quarter of my actual screen. now i can quickly hover over the taskbar and locate easily the window i need. this happens to be so quick and so natural that i don't even need alt-tab anymore really :)

edit: and it looks great, much more fitting the rest of the os than the 3d-flip imho. i dislike the big desktop-quad that rotates with my windows..

I find it useful, and if people were more open about it im sure it wouldn't be deemed useless so quick.

I work with alot of word/text documents, and alot of them are new 'untitled ones' (lots of copy and pasting , dont ask lol) so with the Flip 3D I can quickly see which document is which, same for multiple instances of any program.

For example when I do programming (and im new to it so im not using nearly as many windows as I will be later on) I have at LEAST 4 or 5 windows open that are text (code and data), as well as normal things like firefox music etc, so to click the flip 3d, and see whats what is a great feature.

You dont have to SCROLL through anything, you can see four or 5 windows at a time, and click the one you want, thats the part that comes in handy. If you would have to scroll to the one you want Id say its useless.

Im just tired of people hating on Windows Vista, let it die in peace!!

I think it really depends on the person.

If you are not open to new stuff (as I am) used to XP or an older OS (as I am) you will very well live witout the Vista flip 3D.

If you are open for new "stuff" and use a lot of windows I can imagine how it becomes handy.

I mean... if I just think... I don't think there is any Vista feature I actively use - Vista is used just like XP by me. (no sidebar!!)

PS: Before anybody starts shouting - I know that Vista actually works differntly to XP, and so will my installation, but I'm speaking about my usage of it.
PPS: actually - I used search in the start menu for 2 programmes - but only because I am lazy...

what i just think is, the multiple windows you see would be better if not in 3d aranged but just besides each other, as a big dial-thingy.. osx does this and it's much more simple to target your window of choise.

but i don't hate vista, far from it. it's my most preferred os to date (including win7).

I just don't understand why so many people love bashing Vista for any reason? Pure trolling. Whats the point of this thread?

Not sure, but I would take a shot at interpreting OP,

. that "unused" features are useless features(???) ;)

    cheers ...

I have an MX Revolution and I use that search button to Flip 3D. I like Flip 3D when I have a lot of windows open, it's actually quite useful IMO.

My side buttons are for media, and the arrows above the side buttons is for volume.

I prefer Mac OS X's Expose. Except when I have many many windows open, then Flip 3D makes more sense. But most of the time, the Expose feature is more useful. I myself alt tab, since it provides a thumbnail of every application I have.

I'm not a vista basher, in fact, I am quite impressed with Vista's reliability and security. all this negative view on it is becase the early lack of drivers and the UAC, but once people understand how much the UAC is gonna help them stay away from dialers and keyloggers, they will appreciate it.
