I have a huge problem, a huge problem in Vista. Once in a while, the entire system will freeze up, the mouse doesn't move, no hard drive activity or fan activity, and the screen is still on. The only fix is a manual hot reboot. Any cures? I have checked Event Viewer and this doesn't show up. Have also tried reformatting, didn't work either. These problems happened after I started using Wubi to install Ubuntu. Could that be the cause?

I highly doubt that is the cause.

I also doubt it, however I'm not an Ubuntu expert.

It's just that the Windows OS shouldn't be affected in that manner by changes to another partition.

However, it isn't a change to another partition. Wubi is on the same partition as Vista.

I feel it may be Wubi, it may also be that your notebook is being maxed out for some reason and dies.

If you never had this issue before installing Wubi, then you've isolated your problem.

Doubt it's maxing out. I just ran Company of Heroes for 2 hours and no freezing at all. And if that doesn't max out, I don't know what will.

Alright, thanks guys, it has stopped freezing so far. I'll update if it freezes again.

Ugh... Happened again while I was away to get something to drink.

    Things Ruled Out:
    1. System Overheat or "Overperformance" (ran two hours of CoH without freezing)
    2. USB Drive
    3. Virus or spyware (did complete scan with Avira)
    4. Wubi (uninstalled)

    Things Left:
    1. Reinstalling all drivers
    2. Installing SP1

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Now it's way more sporadic than ever. I can't even boot into Vista without getting a freeze in 5 minutes. Therefore, I wiped the hard drive and installed Ubuntu, but I would like to be able to install Vista (or at least some version of Windows) again. Any solutions?

    I'll try Windows XP tomorrow.
