I'm trying to install Vista on a new Hitachi 5K320 320GB laptop drive. It sees my hard drive, knows its capacity, goes through the motions of installing and then hangs on "Completing Installation." It just keeps hanging there.
This is for my Vostro (specs in sig).
Hope you can help.

The Vista installation usually hangs for a bit, because it has to finalize all of the installation files, and then it has to prep itself for the Windows Experience Index test. It should finish in a few minutes. If it does not complete the install in like 15 minutes or so, I would restart the installation.

I let it sit there for over 2 hours. Ugh.
I just stumbled upon a solution. Evidently, it needed me to load a SATA driver from the Dell CD within the install. I guess because it was a brand new drive? I've done a clean install on my DV9700T a bunch of times and never had that problem but that was on factory installed drives that Vista came on.
Anyway, it just finished up and didn't have any hangs. So now off to put drivers on. Fun!
Thanks as always K-TRON! -
Hey beat me to it.... Glad you figured it out. AHCI issue.

rtdogs, I am glad that you were able to get it to work.
Good luck with the new drive, hopefully you can get that second caddy to work tomorrow.

Hi.
I wonder why some drives need SATA drivers installed to work with Vista
Vista spotted my WD 500GB SATA drive and it installed fine.
I wonder if it`s the Different SATA controllers that are the problem
I have an INTEL CHIPSET.
