    Hey,

I recently asked the IT director of my school if he knew of any tricks to speed up my internet downloading... this is what he sent me:

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

    what will it do?

According to the first few links on this google search, that commandline disables _Vista's so-called TCP windows scaling, which is a more sophisticated algorithm for (attempting to) maximize network communication.

Apparently, as described briefly in this OSU IT FAQ, a lot of other networking equipment is incompatible with _Vista TCP windows scaling, and performance actually improves if that function is turned off via the commandline you've been given.

For a fuller discussion of what _Vista TCP windows scaling is, try this RFC from IETF (also from the same google search).

    Anything else?
