Well, there are several explanations for this. This could be because of...

    a) Some services are set to "Delayed Start" which allows them to start automatically when Windows starts, but forces them to wait awhile before doing so - so not to overload your computer at startup.

    b) Windows is still loading things, but services that run in the background so you don't notice them starting up.

It takes about 37 secs for desktop loading, and then it just stops for about 45sec and then it continues loading and all is loaded for about 1 min and 40 sec.
    Is it normal or what?

well i do hv an alternative for tht try thr following thks and let me know if it works:
    (1) deleted the files in the folder %temp% and prefetch(start--run--and type the following thks mentioned above)
    (2) disable the programs in the startup items under the MSCONFIG
    (3) increse the virtual memory of the system(by default it is set to : let windows manage the pagefiling) change it to Inital: 4048 and the Max: 8048..

try this and let me knw plz

No its not normal...Do you have proper video drivers installed?

Rt click on yr desktop/personalization/display settings...

It seems like it is stalling while it seeks a driver such as video or looking for internet

Or it's starting up the 100+ services that an untamed Vista is wont to do and it is memory and/or CPU constrained.

Is it safe to do that?
Where is that folder %temp% i can find only temp?
Do I delete everything from prefetch file?
I am not an expert and dont want to have problems in future.
This stop in booting was present from first day.
where can i find thoose programs under MSCONFIG? I cant find them in startup programs.
    I have home premium.

IT FINE TO DE;ETE THE ALL THE PREFETCH FILES EXCEPT ONE NAMED AS "READYBOOT" THIS FILE WUD NOT BE DELETED..

AND IN THE " RUN" WINDOW U HAVE TO TYPE %temp%..AND ALSO DELETE ALL THE FILES..

AND WHEN U OPEN THE MSCONFIG( SYSTEM CONFIGRATION UTILITY) GO TO THE " START UP TAB" JUST CLICK ON DISABLE ALL THIS WUD NOT HARM UR SYSTEM..

In my experience this is a program problem and not a driver problem. I would NOT delete the prefetch folder at this time.

Let us know what programs are listed in the startup tab of MSCONFIG (name, path, etc) and I, or someone else, can tell you which programs don't need to run.

This will correct the problem, or at the least make troubleshooting easier.

Its totally normal and both vista machines of mine do it, it is all the services and startup programs loading after the desktop loads. Disabling unneeded startups will help but most of it is all the dang services that load up in Vista.

    Hi,

I had the same problem. In fact, it is not a problem.

You are probably connectec to internet with a wifi connection. I think that you have an application who want to look for updates at start of windows. The wifi take 10-15 seconds to connect, and this/these applications are waiting for wifi connection to finish loading.

Try to connect your computer by ethernet cable, you shloudn't get this problem.

I agree with orbitalxp, my old laptop with vista always took an extra 20-30 secs to logon to my wireless network. And during this time the computer ran slow. But once connected to ethernet, problem gone. So try that.
