Is there any way that I can get my locked screen and login screen to appear like the ones in windows xp? Instead of the picture, I just want the box.

    thanks in advance

You will need to change the style i believe. I know in XP you can switch between the stylish GUI or the Box login. Vista should be able to do this too, if not then FAIL.

I believe the new Welcome Screen in Vista completely replaces that classic login style....

    You can try out this:
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Navigate to Local Policies > Security Options.

Over there, scroll down to a group of options saying Interactive Logon:.........

You can try and play around with those options (not really recommended !!), or you can enable the 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' functionality and also enable the 'Don't remember the last user' functionality.

Then you would have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del everytime at the logon screen, and your username won't be remembered, i.e. you'll have to fill up your username and password, each time you want to login. :p

In Vista, you cannot change it to display the windows logon box. You do get the basic components of it though by doing the following:

Click the start button. In the Start Search box type"control userpasswords2" (w/o the quotes) and hit enter. Go through the UAC prompt. In the window that opens click the "advanced" tab, and then, under "secure logon" check the "require users to push CTRL + ALT + DELETE" checkbox.

Click OK to close the window, then try locking your computer. I changed this as soon as I got my laptop, as I like the XP box too. :)
