Is there a plugin or a codec I must install to make the Media Center read lossless music formats such as FLAC's and Matroska video files (MKV's)?
-
Yes, you must install codecs to play either with Media Center/Player. Consider googling for 'vista codec pack'.
Good luck -
I personally vouch for the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP).

I'd recommend K-Lite Codec Pack Full.

PS: Until now I've always used foobar2k for music and the MPC for video files and I'll continue to use them. I'm asking this, because now that I have the HP remote control, allowing me to control my Media Center from a distance, it will be very useful if I can manage my whole library and vids, using it only. -
I say go for the codec pack at shark007.net

Ahh, so its the program thats the problem then. It's not adding those file types as default for the program to play. There should be a setting in preferences for that or something. If not, I don't know, I don't use Media Center.

Check this out hatrox.
