My laptop at work will not backup (Vista built-in backup) at all. Ive tried to get it to go to the ExternalHD that is hooked up to our network, but it pops up with that Username\Password box. Its a small office (8 people), so we did not pass protect the External HD. Everone else gets their automatic backup done every Wednesday nite (Im the only Vista here, everyone else is XP), but I kept getting "Failure to Backup" errors (cant remember the #s of the error code). So I tried backing up to DVDR\CDR and they both failed. So I wrote down the error code # and pluged it in to Microsofts support search. It came back with a "Software Activation Error". So I got no help from MS (wow what a surprise!!!)! Ive read all of the other posts here on the same subject and they all seem to point to a third party software called "Acronis True Image". Can the Vista backup be fixed or do I need to buy this ATI (Acronis True Image) software?? Cant ATI be used to backup over the network, to the network drive?? I know alot of these questions have been asked before here, but none of those posts gave clear answers.

    1. Can Vista backup be fixed or made to work on a network drive???

    2. Can ATI backup my files over the network every Wed night like the XP machines in the rest of the office do??

    Help Plz!!!!!!

same problem to me. Do not have acronis, home little network and functioning properly, but it asks for the passwords only when using the vista backup, otherwise i can use other network ressources. Did you find the solution?
