Is there a way of removing the grey square when viewing large icons?
-
-
My first answer is no - but.
It doesn't appear on my folders...
Thus I suspect its the actual icon that has a grey "frame" in that case you'd need to change the icon.
Or have you got that grey line on folders too? -
I have that frame in older icons... when I view them as large icons...
COD5, Burnout, WiC all have big icons without frames but the older ones like BF2, WoW, L4D show as smaller icons with the frame

hmm.. anyone?

The reason Vista does this is because the smaller icon with the grey outline does not have a larger size of icon to display (say 256x256 or 512x512).
You can see this for yourself by reducing the size of the icons until the grey box goes away. This is the size which the original icon is. If you try to enlarge it anymore, Vista will just place a grey box around it.
To remedy this problem you will need to find an icon in one of these larger sizes!
As far as I am aware that is the only way. -
In addition to what hooligan001 said above:
I find some games, like Fallout 3 and the Witcher, HAS bigger icons, but not uses them by default (You have to right click and choose properties and then "change icon" to find them). -
There should be some registry setting or something that removes the box even with small icons

On Vista 64bit won't work.
Cheers... -
