OK, I noticed alot of folks in here recently purchased a New Laptop with Vista Pre-installed.

I've also notice that Some like it & Some what to downgrade to XP.

I myself never have Vista as the only Windows OS installed. I always had XP on my first partition. I like Vista alot but decided to uninstall it for two reasons. Driver problems & I want to use Vista partition for Storage Only. The Driver problems are with my Kensington Bluetooth drivers and My Acer Bison Cam. I figure I'll wait until I get a new laptop near the end of summer of later that has compatible everything with Vista installed.

So the question is ..... How are you guys making out with Vista as your only OS?

I'm using Vista-only now, everything is working fine just like it was when my notebook was running with XP. The only thing that bugs me is the games run slightly slower now.

    Yeah, I like that. :D

Or how about Windows Vista Ultimate Resource Hog? At least that is what the beta and RC1 builds were, as it had almost double the processes running right out of a clean install. Loved the look and functionality of Aero/Windows Explorer over XP, but not much else.

    :)

If I has a laptop already pre-loaded with Vista, then I'd stick with it. However, I'd never upgrade my XP computer to Vista because 1) XP works perfectly 2) XP is faster in some cases 3) NO COMPATIBILITY PROBLEMS. Perhaps I'll upgrade when SP2 comes out

I currently have Vista installed. Not bad if I give it a shot. It takes some time booting up, but once it starts running...it seems to be faster than XP. And the new look is defintely and upgrade compared to XP. So far I don't think I have any compatibility issues...*knocks on wood*

    No problems here running Ultimate.

There have been a few times recently that it has felt slower than XP...even slower than my first install of RTM in a dual boot with xp...but it's rare. Overall, it feels faster.

There are a fair amount of running processes upon boot in ultimate as mentioned above...makes we wonder if I really "needed" ultimate. Oh well, the OEM was cheap.

All said and done, I'm happy with Vista's performance on my system :)

Mine runs very fast across the board, from bootup to close.

I made sure to have extra RAM on hand (2 GB) because of the different RAM usage model, and it has paid off handsomely. Each time I have used Vista things have sped up more (because SuperFetch is preloading things according to my usage patterns).

I got my notebook pre-installed with Vista Ultimate (reinstalled to get rid of bloat) used it for couple of days , no problems everything works ok; but installed XP (dual boot) because I wanted to run some benchmarks and test out the system (knowing that XP still has the best performance). However once I installed XP I gradually moved away from Vista, now I hardly boot it :p

I definitely love how it speeds up based on the everyday tasks you do. When stuff opens in half a second, it's truly awesome. :)

I haven't noticed any slowdowns...but then again I haven't played any games yet so we'll see. If anything, my boot and shut down times DECREASED and I no longer have this weird XP didn't boot and just hung 5% of the time. Apps do seem to run a little faster now (start up in 0-2 sec which is an improvement).

Only problem so far...FF occasionally freezes. No driver issues, though I don't have a duplex-enabled driver for my HP Deskjet.

Been usingg Vista Ultimate for about a week with no problems. Runs smoothly on my 2Gb RAM system. But i think with less than 2gb you'll get a performance hit. Still too early to know for sure about all potential problems and incompatibilities.

It works surprisingly well on the Acer Aspire 3682WXMI that I picked up(Celeron M 1.73 / a measly 512MB RAM). XP would have been nice but it came with Vista pre-installed.

    No real complaints so far.
