Hey guys
I have a huge problem just recently with installing Alcohol 120% on my new LG P300. When I started installing I immdietely recived this message
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing the video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.
Technical information:

Then it kept rebooting over and over again at least 10 times until I got it to work. Mentioned something about the The plug and play BIOS driver.
Can anyone shed any light on anything? Said something about a problem that may damage my system?
What damages were done? I know stuff regarding the BIOS is nothing funny to play around with, I hear it could render my PC useless.
Has damage been done?
Thanks for the reply
update:
I managed to boot regularly by pulling out my external DVD-drive from the usb port and it boots up regularly, but when I try to connect it always gives me that screen. so I uninstalled Alcohol and my external drive works now.
So my question is has damage been done at all to my OS or my System BIOS?
I appreciate the reply guys thank you very much
Jimmy

Alcohol 120% installs a driver for a virtual device, typically a virtual CD/DVD. As far as your computer is concerned the driver is for a real piece of hardware, although of course it isn't. I think it's pretty likely that Vista is not happy with that driver.
Check your documentation or search the web for how to boot into safe mode and remove a device, or uninstall Alcohol 120%. I don't have Vista so I can't tell you how to do that. Your system is not damaged and everything should work out once you get rid of A-120%.

try daemon tools, it's vista compatible.

hey
Luckily for me my computer has an external DVD-R drive. I pulled it out and it manage to boot regularly again. But when I plugged it in it would give me that exact same screen.
I successfully uninstalled Alcohol 120% now so my external DVD-R drive is working again.
Can I ask was there any damages done to the OS or my system BIOS?
Thanks for the reply guys -
There will be no damage. So long as that driver is removed then you should be OK. It is impossible to damage the BIOS in this way unless you have a very rare virus, or you put your computer near a really powerful electromagnet.

InlawBiker
Removing the driver means removing the software am I correct? Once I uninstall Alcohol then the drivers go bye bye too?
Thanks really appreciate the info. A long time ago over 10 years now I believe a virus had deleted my bios for my computer and rendered it useless. |Since that day I know better not to mess around.
When I download a bios upgrade for my notebook I'm always carefull that I proceed with caution.
Please confirm if I am correct about uninstalling the software.
Thanks a bunch

If you uninstalled Alcohol 120% and you no longer have problems starting the computer with the USB drive connected, everything is fine and the driver was uninstalled.
There was no permanent damage to your BIOS. Modern BIOSes are pretty tough. The worst you will ever be able to do (without the magnet InlawBiker mentioned) is mess up Vista, like you did, and that can be fixed by uninstalling the offending driver or software or doing a restore or reinstalling Vista. -
excellent storm
