I just received my Dell 1720 today, and decided to do a clean reformt. Upon trying to reformat, my installation hung on the last step "completing installation". After numerous tries, I still can't get past the screen. I also tried loading the drivers on the Dell installation CD, but it keeps telling me that no drivers could be found. It keep hanging, I've left it on for about an hour as well. Also, now I can't boot into Vista anymore, it's stuck on the green bar loading screen. Anyone know a fix?

Your laptop should have come with an OS restore disk. Use it and it will restore your laptop to the original Dell configuration. After that, you should research the Dell board and see if there is a 1720 reformat thread.

I'm using the OS restore disk for the reformat, so the very same disk is causing my the problems. There is, however, a recovery partition, but I'm unable to bring it up. I've tried pressing ctrl+f11, and f8, but none work in bringing up the restore utility.

Have you contacted Dell for assistance? If you can't access the restore partition and the restore disk is not working, this might be something Dell may have to fix.

I had already emailed Dell, but haven't received a response yet. Thanks for your efforts though.

I received my dell 1720 yesterday and unfortunately decided to do a clean install of vista using the vista CD....now I'm facing the same problem as you. Vista installation freezes at the "completing installation" stage even after 5 hours
The dell restore partition also doesnt come up. The manual says that pressing ctrl + f11 should bring up the partition but nothing happens when I do that.
Will be really grateful if you could let me how you managed to reinstall vista. -
check the dell forum i know this has been answered before there is a driver i believe that has to be loaded during the install... that solves the problem
