    I've had my ASUS G1S B2 for a week.

    I'm working on it,
I walk outside and when I come back in the Windows Error Recovery screen is up.

Strooth I say. No good at all. I'll do as it says and Launch Startup Repair!!

    It doesn't work.

Now, I've repartitioned my Hard drive.

    A: Data storage
    C: Vista
    d: More data (CURRENTLY EMPTY)

If I use the ASUS DVD that comes with it, am I going to loose all my work.
I haven't got round to doing a back up. It has heaps and heaps of important stuff I recently moved across.

I also haven't as yet made a boot disk.

    HELP!!!!!!!

if you re install windows you wont lose your data as long as they are in a separate partition, Only the C: drive will be formatted

You are much likely going to lose your data if using Asus DVD. I bet it's recovery DVD, not only Windows setup disc. (I never own ASUS laptop, so it's a guess here)

I think you should backup all your stuffs first and try that disc, just for safety sake. If I were you, I will use any bootable linux cd--like ubuntu--and back up all my data in the safe place before doing anything :p

hmm i dunno about Asus DVD , but with my Lenovo recovery dvd 4 example you can chose to restore to factory state by just formatting the C: drive and it doesn't affect the other drives.

But yeh if u're not sure it's always better to back up ur stuff

    It worked.
It found a problem in the system Root and repaired.

Now what should I do next.
Do I need to do a clean install?

What should I do next? (after I backup all my data)

A clean install would be your best bet.

For future reference, removing the hard drive will NOT void the warranty.

I believe that depends on the specific laptop. If changing the hard drive requires splitting the case the warranty is most likely voided. If however, the drive can be removed via a door or cover on the laptop then the warranty is not affected. It's not the drive replacement that affects the warranty, it is what you must do to replace the drive that does.

    Okay,
So because I have a cover with 2 little screws it would not void the warranty?

Anyway, I tried the ASUS restore CD.
No love. None at all. it wouldn't complete.
So its with ASUS at the moment.

Two individual ASUS people mentioned a Faulty Hard drive.
I'll let you know when I get it back. Hopefully tomorrow.
Bloody annoying when you've only had the computer a week.

Yes, just a little door and 2 screws means it's meant to be replaceable. The only cases where it would not be is if you had to take apart the whole system to replace it. That case would be very rare however, as it would increase the manufacturing costs to a very high level.
