REMOVING THE WATERMARK-COURTESY OF ALEXZEON
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/...py-watermark-in-vista-after-installating-sp1/
So far everything is a bit zippier. Opening windows and applications as well as closing them are faster. I'll keep testing.
Edit: Wow copying large files takes alot less time for sure.
Edit: Heres a link to the improvements. Seems it might fix the hard disk thrashing some of you are experiencing. Also touts that there are battery consumption improvements to save energy.
BIG EDIT: Seems cpu activity has in fact gone down. I'm noticing that my cpu has dropped a few degrees and that the cpu activity has gone down like right now I am only browsing here. My fans have also gotten quieter. Interesting... And trust my I own a c90 and the heat from this thing would always make the fans go into their low-medium fan state which isnt loud but noticeable. But now the fans are on their low low state where they are almost inaudible.

What I wonder is, could I use it to install over a Dell Vista installation? I remember a while back, microsoft said it wasn't possible to do with the OEM's (but they all used to use imaged install disks, not true install disks), but since Dell uses a true (but modified) Windows install disk, could I use it? I would think yes, but want to be certain. If so, I will definitely get SP1 when it's out of beta.
-
It work great I like fact it go new wga in hopefull kill all bios emulatored hacks :> it does seem fast no marjor issues stable am run rc1
I wound think as long you got legal copy vista you can install sp1 rc -
works fine after installing over dell vista
-
How big is the download guys? I'm bound to dial up at home.. Stupid rural area..
I'm tempted but learry of doing it, it's still in beta ain't it.
BTW, someone mentioned slipstreaming the SP onto the install disk? You can. Get vLite, it does it all for you. -
Of course it's legal! It came with my Dell pc.
-
-
I thought this is not in beta anymore...well its still considered a beta to the final release, but it is a RC directly from Microsoft...I would assume the gold version will come out sometime in January or February 2008...or first quarter 2008 in general.
In the Office Word document, "Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Before You Install," it cites that Vista SP1 RC is time-limited software, and it will no longer operate after June 30, 2008. So the assumption is that Microsoft will release the gold version of Vista SP1 considerably before that date...I think the RC would also have to be uninstalled prior to applying the gold version of Vista SP1. -
Dear god...550mb..Well that's gonna take a week to download..DAMN YOU MICROSOFT!
I'm just gonna have to download it at work..I'll likely get in huge crap though. The IT guy is a hard ass about us using it for anything but work related purposes.
Thanks for the info bro. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
You can download through windows update, which the download is about 65 mb. Look at the first link I posted, it tells you. Also the sp1 does use a few gigs of hd space though.
-
From the technet link:
-
65mb? that ain't bad, that's feasible in one night, don't you all envy me and my roxor connection?
lol, I likely just lost all credibility with my gamer slang there...
Thanks bro I'll check it out, gonna wait to see what more people think before I make the jump. -
Does it improve gaming or not? 'cause that`s what I`m interested in...
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Not sure, I installed the new 162.21 and my cod4 got a nice boost so it could be drivers and this because one of the improvements was directx I believe.
Edit: Wow someone needs to run battery tests because my cpu usage has dropped. My fans are lower and my cpu temp has dropped a few degrees. Now I notice my cpu activiity is actually lower. -
for those on dial up you should be able to request a free disc to be mailed to you juts like with xp as long as your copy is legal but you would have to wait till its final
-
The Forerunner, STOP TEMPTING ME!! lmao.. ugh.. I'm such a sucker for sqeasing out every drop of performance out of my machine. And you make it sound like SP1 is the creme de creme (or w.e..) of ways to do it on Vista.
zfactor, I'm stoked to hear that, I was told Microsoft has no plans to do it for Vista. Wazoot! -
well the office 2007 update in available on cd.. i would assume they would do the same for vista.. im sure if they didnt they would have a lot of pissed off people. no one knows for sure.. but id say they will do it
-
Download the file by clicking the Download button at the top of this page. Save the file to your hard disk drive. Note: The 2007 Office suite SP1 is available on CD-ROM through the Office Online page Order Office Service Packs on CD-ROM.
right from the office sp1 download page -
i didnt know the file transfer could be faster. lol takes about a minute to transfer 1.5gb from my SD card to my docs thats pretty fast compared to XP was like something around 23mins for that size lol, but then again they werent usb 2.0 with XP
-
Thanks for the link. Gonna download and try, and post my thoughts on it, later

I finished downloading and installing Vista SP1 RC on my other computer a while ago but I just noticed that it took under ten seconds to shut down.
Other than that opening and closing applications is quite a bit snappier. I did read though that SP1 improves in performance overtime as it builds up like, data/etc for its cache, since thats a primary foundation of what Vista is based on.
-
nice one guys, +rep to The Forerunner.
ive just downloaded, when i get my notebook ill post some benchmarks, first will be out of the box setup with standard drivers an standard vista, next will be with SP1 and latest nvid drivers. startup/shutdown times will be included.

WU is so slooooow, downloading standalone package instead
Standalone package is 500mb, where WU is only 54mb, but the standalone still finished first! Guess everyone is trying to get it form WU. -
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
Do I need to uninstall my OS before trying this one?(sorry if you think this a dumb question, i just don't know)
Or do i simply update it just like any windows update? -
No, you don't need to uninstall anything. Unless you have a SP1 beta installed
BTW, installed it, the OS seems much more responsive now, love it
Anyone know how to remove the watermark? -
I'm downloading it through WU , 50% done. But, I'd suggest u use the standalone installer as its a pain going through the process before WU gets the RC1 update (I had to reboot my comp six times during the ordeal, but looks likes its gonna be worth it
) I'll post my views after i install it..
-
-
At the lower right corner of the screen
On Microsoft's webpage they mentioned it, but not how to remove it
Guess I have to google it -
What does it say?
-
Not a big issue. It will go away once you install the final version of SP1. It will appear on the first reboot after installing SP1 and go away on the first reboot after uninstalling it. -
Thanks for the answer
-
Is it worth upgrading to SP1 and is there a 64bit link please?
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Here you go 64 bit link
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...77-6107-46df-89d8-b93c248496e3&DisplayLang=en
So far sp1 is welcome, everything seems faster and copying files takes alot less time. Let me see what else the rest of us and I find. I was doing this at 2 am last
night.
Edit: anyone else noticing the lower cpu activity or is it just me? -
Thank you for the link Forerunner! And i wil check and see if i notice lower cpu activity.
-
It's certainly not higher, but the CPU usage still seems above that of XP. It still seems to stay around 2-7% most of the time on idle (except WMP and Opera where I'm typing this).
I haven't really been able to tell a difference, but I haven't tried any games on it. I suppose the 600 MB I transferred back and forth from my FAT16 partition didn't take very long, but the lack of any big delays rather than especial quickness was what I noticed (or perhaps failed to notice).
Battery life did seem a bit better than expected, but no benchmarks yet - the combined effort of installing SP1 and MS-DOS has left me with little time to test either.
I still have Vista 1.00 on a seperate partition, so I could directly compare those at some point - though SP1 would be at a slight disadvantage since I haven't used 1.00 ever since the latest re-install (not even sure I put drivers on it yet, actually). -
I noticed too, the CPU is not so active anymore, according to RmClock. And because of that my average CPU temp have decreased too
-
Downloading now, let`s see if it`s worth the bother...
-
So is this official or beta?
Also, I'll let you know about CPU activity when I get home on my desktop. Did it do anything with RAM usage from you experience so far? -
RAM usage is pretty much the same
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
No ram usage differences so far that I can tell. CPU definitely, my c90 is going down to its low power fan state alot more .
This is release candidate (hence the rc) its actually past the beta phase. Its basically the final product but just checking to see if there are any critical errors.
Thx for the rep. -
I'll have to see how may laptop and desktop do with the update. Exciting stuff. -
How long does the install take? It says maybe hours! i cant wait that long though haha.
-
Is there any way to make sure I just installed it.
First i tried the installer, but it said something about not installing it after hour of rebooting and random updatity stuff.
Then I used WU, now I'm on again, it said it'll install SP1 on the bootscreen, but I went to do something else, until i saw the logon screen.
I seem not to have any way to make sure I actually installed it. Checked Everest's OS tabs, says no service pak installed. Maybe CPU temps have dropped for a few notches, but might be my mind doing it's tricks. You know, the placebo effect >_>. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Edit: Though you have the 64 bit version which might take longer. It shouldnt take more than 2 hours though in your case. No idea about the 64 bit version. Whatever it says is about right. The 32 bit says an hour or more and thats about what it takes.
-
Ive heard it takes around 30minutes to install.
-
I'm wondering if I should do this or not. Some say it could mess up your computer...I need my computer to work reliably so I wonder if I should go ahead and install it or not?
-
This is release candidate, which means it has passed a certain quality check, and officially released to the public by Microsoft. So no need to be scared
Just install it
-
Sorry for the newb question but do I need to install SP1 if I have automatic updates turned on in Vista? Is SP1 just a compilation of all the updates Microsoft provides for Vista? I guess I just assumed that installing SP1 was redundant if my laptop is already downloading Vista updates from Microsoft...
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Nope its not. Its a big update to your systerm with tons of fixes and updates. THis will become a highly recommended update for all vista users when the final release comes out in the first quarter of 08. Its not available through windows update unless you choose to do so following the steps from the link from my original post.
